Component 1: Building Producer
Capacity for Climate Resilient Stronger
Value Chains.
This entails enhancing sustainable productivity,
climate resilient and nutrition-sensitive
production and improved access to credit,
inputs, and digital extension services for
increased market participation.
1.1. Farmer Capacity Building
Investments and E-Voucher Support
Registered farmers will connect to a big data
platform for agro-weather and market info, as
well as an e-voucher system. Individual farmers
and CIGs will link with SACCOs for credit on
small-scale infrastructure investments in
aggregation and value addition.
1.2. Farmer Producer Organization (FPO)
level Climate Smart Value Chain
Investments
Aims to increase farmers’ capacity to engage in
collective marketing through stronger Farmers
Producer Organizations (FPOs). It involves
linking individual farmers/CIG/VMGs/IPs to
FPOs, either by supporting the formation of new
FPOs or strengthening existing ones
1.3. Improve Creditworthiness of CIGs and
FPOs
This will be achieved by encouraging farmers and
groups to save with a SACCO, where loans will
be availed. Financial Inclusion & Management
Grants (FIMG) will kickstart SACCOs, while
Financial Matching Grants (FMG) will establish
revolving funds for loans to farmers/groups. By
project end, over 30,000 farmers in the county
will be accessing affordable financial services
through Agri-SACCOS
Component 2: Climate smart value
Chain Ecosystem Investments
Seeks to build an agricultural ecosystem that is
resilient to climate change and contributes
towards reduced production of greenhouse
gases.
2.1 Farmer-led irrigation development (FLID)
Seeks to enhance uptake of irrigation
technologies, expand area under irrigation and
increase irrigation efficiency
2.2. Market access and infrastructure
development
This sub component aims to boost market
competitiveness for smallholder farmers by
reducing post harvest losses, enhancing value
addition, facilitating information sharing,
strengthening ties with SMEs and off-takers
and support for produce certification.
2.3. Data and digital investments
Focuses on Investment support for wide-scale
adoption of Digital Agricultural Technologies
and integration of Big Data Platform to
streamline e-Extension, Market Linkages,
Financial Inclusion and Data Analytics.
Component 3: Piloting Safer Urban Food Systems.
The component will strengthen the Urban
Food Systems in Nairobi and its environs
improving urban market infrastructure and
enhancing institutional and policy frameworks.
