County Government of Nandi, through the Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, Water, Environment, and Climate Change, in collaboration with the National Environment Authority (NEMA), International Crane Foundation (ICF), Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Kenya Forest Service (KFS), Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and Emsos Technical Training Institute, joined members of the public at Kipkongorwa Wetlands, Lelmokwo\/Ngechek Ward, Chesumei Sub-County to celebrate this year’s World Wetlands Day.<\/p>

World Wetlands Day is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of these ecosystems and encourage collective action toward their conservation. This year’s theme, \u201cProtecting Wetlands for Our Common Future,\u201d highlights the critical role wetlands play in sustaining biodiversity, supporting livelihoods, and promoting climate resilience.<\/p>

Speaking at Kipkongorwa, the County Executive Committee Member in charge of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, Water, Environment and Climate Change, CPA. Alfred Lagat, assured members of the public that the county government is mapping out all wetlands for proper planning and restoration. He also affirmed the government’s commitment in restoring all the encroached wetlands to improve water reservoirs across the county.<\/p>

The event established a renewed commitment from all the stakeholders to preserve and manage wetlands for future sustainability.<\/p>

Jonah Biwott, Chief Officer Lands, Environment and Climate Change, highlighted the importance of wetlands in supporting livelihoods, sustaining biodiversity and combating climate change. He also encouraged the community to adopt eco-friendly farming practices and participate in conservation programs.<\/p>
